The Upheaval Era
At this point in US history, a revolution began in the 1950s that still affects us to this day. This is the era where I believe that the government and the people started living in separate Americas. Social traditions of our past were being attacked by progressives, socialists, communists, and liberals. The radical feminist movement began, which demonized males. Some leaders of the movement declared that all forms of sex constitutes rape. Others demanded abortion rights, which they received in the Supreme Court decision Roe vs. Wade, leading to over 35 million abortion deaths. Leaders of the movement stressed that a woman is not free unless she is sexually free. The time of "free love" began, which helped lead to our STD/HIV/AIDS crisis in America today. Birth control became more common and accessible, which contributed to lowering the American birth rate and raising the acceptance of sexual promiscuity.
Respect for authority was challenged as race riots, gang fights, and cop killing became common in our cities. National figures such as presidents, senators, mayors, and even religious leaders were assassinated. People refused to serve in the military. Anti-war protests became massive and violent across the nation. The rate of drug use exploded. Marriage was thrown away in favor of divorce or living together instead; even having children with no plan of staying together. Homosexuality started to become acceptable in some circles. Church attendance started to go downhill as traditional and Christian values were mocked. All the social ills of today started to become acceptable and tolerated in this time period. And all of the hippies and anarchists that supported this movement are now teaching our children in our schools and colleges.
The Overlapping Era
This era began in the 1950s and I feel is our current situation. This is a time period in which all of our previous eras exist together at the same time. Whereas in the past we had distinct movements, today we have all of the movements together. The government and the people continue to live in separate Americas. While there are sections of America that exhibit an independent spirit, there are other sections that continue to wait for the federal government to take care of everything for us. Hillary Clinton called herself a modern-day progressive and her policies on government healthcare and seizing company profits show she is no different than Wilson or the Roosevelts. As for Obama, he is the reincarnation of Woodrow Wilson. With a progressive Congress, there's no telling what damage he can do. The sad thing is, John McCain is today's Herbert Hoover - not in the incorrect "do nothing" sense, but in the realistic "socialist-lite" sense.
In the early 1900s, most Republicans were nothing more than less-socialist Democrats. We are repeating that period of history right now. You can see all these eras in today's America. As long as these competing eras exist, there will be gridlock, anger, and division. These eras will either shatter our nation into pieces, where each era has a home, or one era will win over the rest.
The progressives/socialists/fascists in America continue to wear away our values and traditions. They long to be globalists, following the lead of world socialism (Wilson, FDR, Clinton, Bush, Obama, McCain). They believe in free trade at any cost (Wilson, Clinton, Bush, Obama, McCain). They hate republican government (Wilson, FDR, Obama). They want government control of the economy (Lincoln, Wilson, FDR, Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Bush, Clinton, Bush 2, Obama, Clinton 2, McCain).
The most dangerous aspect of this socialist takeover is the fact that most of the media in the US agrees with and promotes this agenda. The scary thing is that many Americans are embracing this socialism, much like the people in Wilson's and FDR's America. And much like Lincoln's America, our nation keeps dividing into two camps: the controlled and the independent.
Let Freedom Ring
If you want to see which states advocate freedom, just follow the guns. If you look at the percentage of gun owners, out of the top 25 states only two of them are in the Northeast while the rest are in the South, Midwest, and West. Out of the bottom ten, half are in the Northeast; California and Washington DC are also in the bottom ten.
Obama, like Wilson, wants to "bring Americans together" and it is no surprise - if you know history - why Obama has such negative views on small towns that "cling to their guns or religion." These are issues that divide Americans between the two camps and any divisions can remove the effectiveness of liberal fascism.
As the Supreme Court reviews the Washington DC gun ban, the newspapers are already taking a page from FDR, questioning the age of the Justices. Will the Courts take more freedom away or will Americans retain their God-given right of self-protection?
As we approach November, we must decide which Era we wish to have dominate our American society. Will we continue to live in the Overlapping Era until we split apart, or will America return to its Constitutional roots?
Some of Lincoln's words ring true: "A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this government cannot endure permanently half slave and half free." That is our current situation - we live politically, socially, and philosophically half slave and half free and, yes, a house divided against itself cannot stand.
As conservative voters feel lost and are sick with their choices for local, state, and federal offices they must be reminded that they will never "throw their vote away" if they are truly voting for what they believe in. To change things, you need to have faith and determination.
It is ironic, after this series, to end it by quoting Lincoln - the first president to start the destruction of our Republic. Regardless, these words ring true and their message is more important than their messenger. When faced with the public opinion that the Republicans were only a small third party and could not change things, Lincoln said, "We shall not fail -- if we stand firm, we shall not fail. Wise counsels may accelerate, or mistakes delay it, but, sooner or later, the victory is sure to come."
To all the conservatives in America, I say stand firm. Do not accept the Republican choice or the two-party system. Vote your conscience, stand firm, and we shall not fail.
The victory is sure to come.
